How it works

Speed you can trust, because it’s checked.

Most speed reading apps only make text go faster. Pace makes sure you still understand it.

  1. Find your natural pace

Read one short article the way you normally do, then answer six questions. No visible timer, no rush.

  2. Practice with a guide

A gentle word cue moves through each reading at a pace set for you. Nudge it faster or slower at any time.

  3. Prove it stuck

Every reading ends with a comprehension check. Your target rises only when your understanding holds.

Features

Everything you need to read better, nothing that distracts.

A guided session highlighting one word at a time at 269 words per minute

Guided practice

Stay in the flow. Word by word.

A pacer highlights each word at your target speed and lingers a little at commas and full stops, so sentences still breathe.

  • Adjust in 10 WPM steps, from 80 to 400 WPM
  • Scroll back and the pacer waits for you
  • Every reading runs to the end, never cut off
Today’s plan with an optional extra reading and a memory check

Daily plan

Five focused minutes a day.

Pace builds each day’s plan from complete readings that fit your time, with a comprehension check after every one.

  • Daily plans of 5, 8, 10 or 12 minutes
  • Optional reminders that skip days you’ve finished
  • Read an extra passage whenever you want more
Progress screen with a weekly goal, goal streak and a 12-week activity heatmap

Habits

A streak that fits your week.

Choose a weekly goal of three to seven active days. Rest days never break your goal streak.

  • 12-week activity heatmap
  • Milestones from 7 to 365 active days
  • A Goal Pass can protect a week that ends one day short
Trends and history comparing independent pace and comprehension between Pace Checks

Honest measurement

Speed and understanding, side by side.

Independent Pace Checks measure your natural pace without the pacer, so practice speed never inflates your results.

  • Comprehension tracked against an 80% goal
  • Fresh Pace Check passages, never repeated
  • Trends from one week to all time
The reading library with stories and articles filtered by interest

Library

Read what keeps you curious.

96 stories and articles across eight interests: originals written for Pace, plus classic stories and adapted articles from open sources. Your daily plan favors the ones you pick.

  • Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery & Suspense, Classics & Adventure
  • Science & Nature, History, Mind & Society, Technology & Business
  • No repeats until you’ve read the whole library
A recall check asking one question about a reading from days ago

Memory

Test what still sticks.

A day or more after a reading, Pace asks one question about it, without letting you reread. Recall beats recognition.

  • One question, one to seven days later
  • Answer without rereading the text

Our promise

No miracle claims.

Pace won’t promise 1,000 words a minute. It shows speed and understanding separately and raises your target only when the evidence supports it.

+5%

The largest single step up in your target pace, and only with supported comprehension.

80%

The comprehension goal. Between 70 and 79% your pace holds; below 70% it eases.

7 days

The minimum time between independent Pace Checks, so progress reflects real practice.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do I need a subscription?

Yes. After a few setup questions and a short baseline reading, you choose Pace Premium, monthly or annual. Eligible new subscribers get a 14-day free trial and are not charged if they cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If your subscription ends, your history stays and you can still look through it; practice continues when you renew.

How do I cancel?

In Pace, open Settings and tap Manage Subscription. You can also go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions.

What data does Pace collect?

Your reading results, preferences and streaks stay on your device. Pace has no account, no ads and no behavioral analytics. Apple and RevenueCat process purchase status so Premium works; they never receive your reading history.

Read the privacy policy

Will Pace make me read 1,000 words a minute?

No, and we think that’s the point. Pace grows a pace you can sustain while still understanding what you read, and it measures progress instead of promising it.

Which devices does Pace support?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later.

What language are the readings in?

English. Most stories and articles are written for Pace. The rest are public-domain classics and openly licensed articles, each credited in the app.
